It's been one of those days. You know the one where nothing goes right. You spill something all over your shirt. Step in gum. Forget your wallet. Can't get coffee. Fall off a cliff.
It's days like these that I have a mini panic attack, wonder what I'm doing with my life, and ask myself if what I'm trying to do, if the goals I've set for myself are actually attainable. When I look around and compare myself to others, it's easy to forget about my own accomplishments and focus on what others have that I don't. The pressure to succeed is crippling, and it can be difficult to feel motivated enough to continue pursuing the things that I want to achieve.
And then I realize that I'm overreacting. Everyone has bad days. Bad weeks. Bad months even. But that doesn't mean we should just give up and throw in the towel. We should all keep trying. Keep striving towards what we want. There are so many reasons not to give up. And here's why:
1. Because you don't really want to. Not really, anyway. You might feel like you've had enough and that you're tired of trying, but really, you're just tired of failing. We all get tired of failing. So take a breath, pull yourself together, and keep trying.
2. Because you need something to believe in. We all do. Without purpose, what's the point of life? Even if we had everything we could ever want, we would find ourselves searching for something else. Something else to want. Something else to have. Some other dream to dream.
3. Because it really could happen. Maybe it hasn't yet. Maybe it won't tomorrow. Maybe it won't happen today. But maybe it WILL.
4. Because you don't want to wonder what might have been. Failure sucks, sure. But you know what's worse than that? Regret. With failure, at least you know what it takes to do what you need to do and how to get where you need to go. If you never even try, you'll always wonder whether or not you could've made your goal a reality.
5. Because success feels fucking amazing. I am not where I want to be in life. Not yet. But I do set small goals for myself that lead me towards the bigger milestones I want to reach. And each time I achieve those goals, it feels like a win. I take each win as a reminder that I'm only getting closer to what I want in life and the kind of person I strive to be. And honestly... who doesn't like winning?
