October is just a full month of Halloween for me, honestly. The weather is still decidedly summer here in Southern California, but that doesn’t mean I can’t get into the spirit with a little music. There are a ton of Halloween playlists out there already, but I wanted to make an October playlist that was spooky without being TOO much in the realm of the Halloween holiday. There’s a little creep factor to all of these songs - whether it’s in the lyrics or the melody - either or, I hope you enjoy this playlist! Listen to it below or here on Spotify.
Ghost - Caravan Palace My husband was actually the one to get me into this French electronic music band and this song is from their newest album Chronologic. It’s just instrumentals, but it really does sound like what a ghost would sound like. You know, if they were a member of an electro-swing band.
Leena - Caravan Palace Been playing this on repeat in the car, I can’t get enough of how weird this sounds! Sort of a glitchy swing??
Trouble in Paradise - Tele Novella I discovered this song while I was shopping in a thrift store in Downtown Long Beach years ago. It came on the intercom, and I asked the cashier what it was so I could look it up later. After watching its very “Day of the Dead“-inspired music video, I can’t help but listen to it every October.
Season Of The Witch - Lana Del Rey I’m all for the original version, but the Lana Del Rey version just sounds a little bit more “Halloweenie” to me.
Hypnotic - Zella Day
Mr. Sandman - Oranger
Tonight You Belong To Me - Patience & Prudence Just a little shoutout to American Horror Story.
ilomilo - Billie Eilish I asked for song recommendations in my IG stories and this one came up. Perfectly creepy - thanks @robotcowboy_!
Stranger Things (Remix) - KREACH In honor of all the Netflix series and movies I’m about to binge for Halloween.
Trouble - Cage The Elephant A song for when you feel like choosing trick over treat.
Heathens - Twenty One Pilots Totally overplayed after the movie Suicide Squad came out, but I can’t help myself - I still like it!
Dream A Little Dream Of Me - Ozzie Nelson Jazz will forever be my favorite genre, so I always like to throw in a little of that into my playlists. You have to admit, it kind of fits the mood if you’re into a 1960’s horror kind of thing.
ghostin - Knowmadic Give me all the lo-fi hip hop, please.
We Can’t Be Friends - Dream Koala
I wonder if we’re dead - eevee
yes & no - XYLØ I almost thought this was a Billie Eilish song when I first heard it - definitely in the realm of that same “nightmare pop” sound.
Back to Black - Amy Winehouse Gotta love me some Amy.
How Soon Is Now? - The Smiths Because The Craft is also on my list of movies to watch for the season.
monster gambling in tokyo - Idealism
CHOKE - I DON’T KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME
Heads Will Roll - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Spooky Scary Skeletons - Dma Illan Trap The only real Halloween song on the list, but the trap version. It’s impossible for me not to get into the spooky mood listening to this.
Dead Season - Idealism
Ghost Choir - Louie Zong The name of this song caught my eye and after listening, it really lives up to its title. If “Ghost Choir” sounds like something you might be into, give it a listen.
Nightmare - Artie Shaw Finishing off with another song from American Horror Story because I’m about to watch all the seasons once this post is published. HAPPY HALLOWEEN MONTH!
